How SMX Works

The SuperMotocross (SMX) Playoffs are the final championship of the season — a hybrid format that blends Supercross and Motocross into three high-stakes rounds. Riders earn seeding points from their SX and MX season finishes, then race three playoff events with combined point totals deciding the SMX World Champion.

The Format

Each SMX Playoff round features two motos per class — similar to Pro Motocross, but on hybrid tracks that blend stadium-style obstacles with outdoor terrain. Both motos are 20 minutes plus 2 laps. The combined results from all three rounds determine the champion.

Seeding

Riders are seeded based on combined points from the 17-round Supercross season and the 11-round Pro Motocross season. The top 22 in each class (450 and 250) qualify automatically. Seeds determine gate pick for each playoff round.

Points System

SMX Playoff points are enhanced — race wins are worth more than in the regular season, creating high stakes for every position. The rider with the most points across all three rounds is crowned the SMX World Champion.

The Storylines

🏆 Roczen's Double

Ken Roczen won his first 450SX title in 2026. Can he add the SMX World Championship for a historic double? He's been the most consistent rider of the year across both disciplines.

🔥 Lawrence Brothers War

Hunter and Jett Lawrence have been locked in the tightest brothers' title fight in history all outdoor season. The SMX Playoffs give them one more arena — and this time, they're racing for the same trophy.

⚡ Deegan's 450 Debut

Haiden Deegan moved up to the 450 class for Pro Motocross after dominating 250SX West. The SMX Playoffs will be his first shot at a premier-class playoff championship on the biggest stage.

SMX Qualification — How Riders Get In

The top 22 riders in combined Supercross + Pro Motocross points automatically qualify for the SMX Playoffs in each class. Combined points from both seasons determine seeding for the playoff rounds. Riders outside the top 22 can earn a spot through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) at each playoff event.
