The story of Ken Roczen in American supercross is one of the sport's great ongoing narratives — a rider of extraordinary natural talent who has faced challenges that would have ended most careers, returned every single time, and kept racing at the championship level year after year. Born in Mattstedt, Germany — a village of fewer than a thousand people — Roczen came to America as a teenager and immediately made clear he was built for the biggest stages in the sport.
His 2014 450MX championship came at age 20. His runner-up Supercross seasons in 2014 and 2016 showed he was capable of winning titles indoors as well. And then 2017 happened. A catastrophic arm injury at Anaheim 2 fractured his radius, ulna, and wrist in a single crash — injuries so severe that his return to racing felt unlikely. He came back. He posted race wins. He chased the title again. He always came back.
"Every time I get knocked down, I find a way back. That's just who I am. The sport has given me everything, and I'm not done giving back to it."
— Ken RoczenThe HEP Suzuki Campaign
Now in his fourth season with Dustin Pipes' Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki program, Roczen is living proof that the right team environment can extend a career well beyond the conventional timeline. The RM-Z450 has given him a competitive platform, and his role as Global Brand Ambassador for Suzuki adds a dimension to the partnership that goes beyond the results board. After winning Round 15 Philadelphia, Roczen now leads the championship with 310 points — 4 ahead of Hunter Lawrence with two rounds remaining. The red plate is his. The title is within reach.
