Cole Thompson grew up in Brigden, Ontario — a small farming community in southwestern Ontario. Motocross in rural Ontario is a different world from the California training culture, but Thompson developed his skills the old-fashioned way: riding whatever tracks he could find, in whatever conditions existed, as often as possible.

Thompson built his reputation winning multiple Canadian Supercross titles before making the leap to AMA competition. His success in Canada led to AMA opportunities in the 450 class, where he has competed for several seasons. The 2026 Monster Energy Yamaha program provides a strong platform in the loaded 450 field.

"Coming from Canada to race in the AMA means you've earned your spot. I don't take a single weekend for granted."

— Cole Thompson · Monster Energy Yamaha

Canada's Premier Export

The Canadian motocross circuit has never been better represented in the AMA than through Thompson's presence. Canadian riders face structural disadvantages — fewer training facilities, colder winters, smaller national programs — that make reaching the AMA 450 class a remarkable achievement. Thompson's career is proof that raw talent and work ethic overcome geography.

Making His Mark

The 2026 season has produced 14 points for Thompson. In a field as deep as the 2026 450SX class, every point matters, and his consistent ability to qualify and score is a credit to his preparation and professionalism. The Yamaha YZ450F suits his technically precise style.
